In Queensland, Volunteers Take the Initiative!

At Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, a great initiative was launched by one of their members, Ian Thomason (known as ‘Thomo’), and his wife Shelley. Thomo and Shelley were sitting on their balcony overlooking Manly Harbour recently when Shelley asked, “Wouldn’t the harbour look really great if all of the masts on the yachts were lit with Christmas lights?” And so, the idea was born for “Harbour Lights”.

Thomo jumped into action and contacted all of the clubs in the Bayside area as well as the local FM radio station and whipped up a huge amount of interest. Recognising that it has all the hallmarks of the start of something big, the Club’s leadership, Commodore David Redfern, urged as many Members as possible to get behind this wonderful community initiative and light up the harbour.
