Brazil Takes Podium at Apotea J/70 European Championship 2025 in Sandhamn

Sandhamn showcased a full range of weather conditions during the J/70 European Championship on August 25-30, 2025. Brazil secured the title of Overall Event Champion, while Portugal became the European Champion of 2025.
A fleet of 64 boats representing 17 nations competed off Sandhamn, delivering highly competitive races and exciting sailing. The outcome remained undecided until the final day, as teams consistently performed at a high level and the leaderboard shifted from day to day.
Onshore, sailors were welcomed with vibrant after-sail gatherings, creating opportunities for international networking and camaraderie among competing teams.
Throughout the week, crews demonstrated their adaptability as wind conditions varied from below 5 knots to challenging 20 knots. In stronger winds and higher seas, Turkey’s Gulboy Guryel with Denizcik impressed with two commanding back-to-back victories.
Ultimately, it was Brazil’s Mindset, skippered by Ralph Rosa, that managed the conditions most effectively, securing an overall victory in the regatta.
The European Championship title went to Portugal’s Solyd with skipper Vasco Serpa. Silver and bronze medals were awarded to Spain’s Luis Albert with Patakin and Luis Martin Cabiedes with Noticia.
“This has been an excellent regatta with world-class sailing in a wide range of conditions. We are proud to have brought together the world’s best J/70 sailors here in Sandhamn, and to have delivered a championship where the competitors were truly tested in every aspect,” said Kristina Wiktander Broman, Race Director of the Apotea J/70 European Championship.
“The Apotea J/70 European Championship 2025 has been a truly memorable regatta. We witnessed top-level racing, true sportsmanship and the unique camaraderie of the J/70 community. From race management and logistics to the social program ashore, every detail came together to deliver a world-class event. I am proud of what we accomplished and together we created an event that will be remembered not only for the racing, but for the spirit that defines the J/70 family,” said Marie Båge, Project Manager of the Apotea J/70 European Championship.
