Monte Real Club de Yates to Host the 52 Super Series in Galicia

The Baionese club is preparing to launch a sports season full of competition, fun and entertainment.

Next May in Baiona, the arrival of the prestigious 52 Super Series will undoubtedly be the nautical event of the year in Galicia.

Considered the “Formula 1 of the sea” and one of the most prestigious events in the world, the 52 Super Series, takes place in May. From May 23-28, 10 to 12 teams of more than eight nationalities with sailors from five continents will compete in the Rías Baixas aboard boats with the cutting-edge technology.

“This is one of the most important events in the world, and we are very proud to bring it to Galicia,” said José Luis Álvarez, president of the MRCYB. “For several days, we will be the focus of international attention, which will have a positive impact on the club and on everything around us. People from all over the world will see the spectacular nature of Baiona and Rías Baixas, and they will discover everything that Galicia can offer them in terms of tourism, gastronomy, culture and sports.”

For the president of the historic Baionese club, Baiona Sailing Week will also allow tourism to be seasonally adjusted, give a boost to the economy, and create a hobby and quarry in the world of sailing. It is, in short, Álvarez concludes, “An event that will go down in the history of Galicia and in one as special as the Xacobeo Year.”

Monte Real will also organize the J/80 Spanish Championship and the Galician Double-Handed Championship. The club’s four classics also return: Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, Conde de Gondomar Trophy, Repsol Trophy and Comunica Trophy.
