Bullitt Crowned Champion of the 2024 Barcelona Maxi Yacht Regatta
The Barcelona Maxi Yacht Regatta 2024 concluded on September 29, with an exhilarating final day of racing. This event, part of the Premier Regatta Series, was organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona and America’s Cup Event (ACE), taking place alongside the America’s Cup racecourse.
The day began with a delay due to a lack of wind. However, just before 1:00pm, the wind picked up, reaching 19 knots. The fleet finally set off at 1:05pm, tackling a coastal course of 21.85 nautical miles, which took the yachts from Barcelona to Premià, passing Badalona and the Forum before returning to Barcelona. Thanks to the increased wind intensity, the Maxi yachts completed the course in under 90 minutes, with averages between 20 and 21 knots.
The day’s race was won by Galateia, owned by David Leuschen and Chris Flowers, followed by Bullitt in second place, helmed by Andrea Recordati, and V-limited, skippered by Karel Komarek, in third.
The Race Committee successfully completed all scheduled races throughout the week, adjusting to various wind conditions, from calm to the strong gusts of the final day, providing an exciting challenge for participants.
Final standings after six races:
1st Bullitt (Wally 93, Andrea Recordati, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda) – 10 points
2nd Galateia (Wally Cento, David Leuschen & Chris Flowers) – 11 points
3rd V of V-limited (Wally 100, skipper Karel Komarek) – 15 points
The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Race Village of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, marking the end of an intense week of competition in the waters of Barcelona.
