Spring at Long Beach Yacht Club

The spring season is a busy one at Long Beach Yacht Club (LBYC). Racing kicks off in April with the premier regatta, the Congressional Cup. The Ficker Cup commences on April 14 and includes several skippers who are ranked in the top ten, making for a strong field of competition as teams vy for entry into the coveted World Championship. Just one day after the qualifier, the Congressional Cup takes place April 18-22. Live commentary and video broadcast will be available later in the week as competitors advance through the stages toward the semifinals and the finals on Saturday.

Off the water, Members at the LBYC are looking forward to new family activities. May will see the debut of the Baby Bees program for the Club “little littles,” where they will enjoy children’s music and gymnastics classes, as well as parent-and-me singalongs and a coffee social for a much-needed caffeine boost. Sunday Family Dinners feature a special room for Club families where they can order off a family-style menu and enjoy a dedicated dining space with their kids. Youth programs and summer camps will return soon, and are sure to be a hit, as well!

For the Club’s 21+ crowd, Tuesday Pub Trivia Nights helmed by Member Meggie Williamson continue to be a roaring success. The last one was a contentious nail-biter, but Team Hokie Pokies landed the win along with a coveted gift card to the LBYC restaurant.

With year-round sun, things rarely slow down at the LBYC, but spring always brings warmer weather, exceptional sailing, and many Club-wide activities for Members to partake in together.
