Spanish and European J/80 Championships
The waters of the Abra Estuary and Real Club Marítimo del Abra and Real Sporting Club will serve as the epicenter of J/80 sailing for elite crews on June 11–14 for the SR Financial Spanish Championship, followed by the MSC European Championship on June 24–28, 2026. A significant fleet of men’s and women’s boats from Spain and across Europe—including several world champions—will compete in the Biscay waters, representing a class that continues to grow in popularity.
The RCMA-RSC has previously hosted the Spanish Cup (2012, 2018, 2021), the Spanish Championship (2023), and a successful World Championship in 2019, in addition to seven editions of the Women’s Sailing Cup. Dozens of boats from across Spain are expected for the upcoming championships. The European Championship will also attract international crews from France, England, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Netherlands. Several J/80 boats based in the Abra have been global benchmarks for years. The scene in the estuary during these championships will be exceptional, with a massive turnout of J/80s sailing the beautiful regatta courses of the Cantabrian Sea.
