Offshore Tradition and Top-Level Competition in South America

Combining offshore tradition, high-level inshore racing and strong international participation, the 2026 Rolex South Atlantic Circuit got underway on January 24, 2026, with the traditional offshore leg from Buenos Aires to Punta del Este. This edition marked the 75th anniversary of the first regatta between the two cities, reinforcing the long-standing bond between Yacht Club Argentino and the Yacht Club Punta del Este.

A total of 51 yachts from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay took part in the event, forming a competitive and internationally diverse fleet. The offshore race to Punta del Este served as the opening leg, followed by an extensive inshore racing program in Maldonado Bay, organized by the Yacht Club Punta del Este.

In addition to the Buenos Aires–Punta del Este offshore race, the Circuit featured six inshore races:

  • Four windward–leeward races
  • Around Gorriti Island Race
  • Solanas Circuit (coastal course)

Consistent and favorable weather conditions throughout the week allowed the Race Committee to complete the full schedule without alterations, providing fair and demanding racing across all formats. Racing throughout the Circuit was close and highly competitive, reflecting the quality of both the yachts and the professional-level crews involved. The overall standings remained undecided until the final race, with the championship ultimately being determined during the Solanas course race.

The yacht Crioula, owned by Eduardo Plass and representing Club Veleiros do Sul and Yacht Club Punta del Este, secured the Rolex Trophy as overall winner in the ORC class, the Circuit’s premier division. In the Sportboat category, first place was claimed by Guillermo Pla, following a consistent series across the week.

As is customary in this Circuit, the social program played a key role alongside the sporting competition. After each race, crews gathered at the Club’s gardens and main mast area, where a large marquee—now a signature feature of the event—hosted the after-race functions. A dedicated captains’ cocktail at the Yacht Club Punta del Este complemented the on-water action.

Run under a European-style event format, the Rolex South Atlantic Circuit remains the only sailing event in South America sponsored by Rolex, positioning it as one of the region’s most prestigious fixtures on the international yachting calendar.
