Member Benefit: Senior Sailors Lounge 1868

As one of the leading yacht clubs in Germany, Norddeutscher Regatta Verein is constantly seeking to improve, enhance and expand the scope of services offered to its members.

They recently launched the NRV Senior Sailors Lounge 1868 with the objective to identify, understand and to better take care of the club’s senior members who no longer actively participate in yachting activities at the club.
Founded in 1868 the NRV not only is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Germany but also one of the largest. About 400 of its 2,200 members are 69 years old or older.

NRV Senior Sailors Lounge 1868 is meant to offer a platform to meet with likeminded people of similar age and to grow new friendships with other members they have not met before.

Ideas to fill the future roster of activities for these members include:

  • Regular biweekly or monthly meetings for lunch at the Clubhouse.
  • Visits as spectators to selected world-class regattas and yachting events.
  • Visits to maritime museums and institutions.
  • Visits to naval companies such as shipyards and boat builders.
  • Visits to sites with historic or maritime interest.
  • Outings to other cultural events such as concerts and plays, etc.

This initiative is also meant to prevent senior members from resigning from the club for lack of adequate value or services.

Special attention in this connection will be given to senior members with disabilities. The organizers will take care to provide adequate modes of transportation to and from outings or events so that all who are interested in participating are able to do so.
