In early December, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club Program Manager and Development Coach Kyle Martin, along with RVYC members Ryan Wood, Andrew Wood, and Luke Ramsay, travelled to California to spend a week sailing on a GC32 foiling catamaran. They were joined by several other sailors from across North America.
The GC32 catamaran allows regular sailors, both pros and keen amateurs, to get a taste of state-of-the-art, flying, foil-born yacht racing at 30+ knot speeds, as pioneered in the America’s Cup.
“It was an amazing experience and a new side of our sport I had not experienced before,” Kyle wrote in the February edition of RVYC’s Seabreeze. “I was very lucky to have the opportunity thanks to friends I made during my time competing. The experience of foiling on a boat of this size is unlike anything else and has me very excited for the future of sailing.”
