CYC Members Win Two Divisions in the 2025 Transpac

Chicago Yacht Club members had a great showing in the 2025 Transpacific Race, from Los Angeles to Hawaii. Lucky, an 88-foot Juan K Judel-Vrolijk yacht, was first to cross the finish line in the 2,225nm race. Lucky is owned and skippered by Byron Ehrhart and was awarded the prestigious Barn Door Trophy for the fastest elapsed time of any monohull. After finishing, Lucky was assessed a 9-hour elapsed-time penalty for several race and measurement infractions regarding their sail inventory and the use of an undeclared outrigger but still held the fastest elapsed time.

Convexity, a Gunboat 68, took first place in the overall Multihull Division with an elapsed time of 7:02:31:53 (corrected time 11:00:35:47). Owned by Don Wilson and co-skippered by John Hildebrand and Josh McCaffery, Convexity’s crew also included Ava Wilson, Don’s daughter, on her first Transpac, serving as one of the drivers.
