The Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC) is proud to host the Cape2Rio 2025 Race, the Southern Hemisphere’s iconic transatlantic yacht race, starting 27 December 2025 from Table Bay in Cape Town. With only five months to go, the excitement is building.

To date, thirteen boats have confirmed their entry, with another three or four expected to join the line-up in the coming weeks. This promising momentum suggests a fleet comparable in size to the 2023 edition—continuing the race’s tradition of attracting high-caliber competitors from across the globe.

As organizers, we recognise that this year’s race takes place against a backdrop of economic pressures, rising logistics costs, and shifting priorities in the sailing world. Ocean racing at this scale demands significant time, resources, and commitment—factors that can be challenging, particularly in the post-pandemic era. Yet, despite these headwinds, the spirit, determination, and quality of the Cape2Rio fleet remain undiminished.

For decades, the Cape2Rio has embodied the romance and challenge of true-blue water sailing. Crews face the unique combination of South Atlantic weather systems, open-ocean strategy, and the camaraderie of an international fleet. It is a race that leaves an indelible mark on all who have taken part.
