A number of ICOYC all-female teams traveled to Hamburg, Germany, to compete in Helga Cup 2021, hosted by Norddeutscher Regatta Verein. The event, held from 30 September to 3 October, helps promote female sailing on an international level and drew 55 teams from Europe, Canada and the United States.
As a TOP 10 Event and partner of “Hamburg Active City”, the Helga Cup boasts an exciting “every woman” sailing format right in the heart of the City of Hamburg, Germany.
Sailors competed in J/70s provided by host club Norddeutscher Regatta Verein and the races were held on Alster Lake, located in the city centre of Hamburg and attracted large numbers of spectators. Hamburg’s latest landmark, the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall and St. Michaels’ Church spire, could be seen in the background.
HSC Women Team won the event with an almost perfect score of 9 wins in 10 races. Teams from Verein Seglerhaus Am Wannsee finished 7th. Two teams representing Royal Vancouver Yacht Club finished in 16th and 32nd. The Alstergirls team from Norddeutscher Regatta Verein were 25th, Eastern Yacht Club’s team was 29th, Royal Thames Yacht Club was 32nd and the Pink Wave team from Yacht Club de Monaco was 54th overall.
