The Eighth ICOYC Commodores' Forum was held in Hong Kong, from November 11 to November 16, 2013 and was hosted by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club.

In most cases, underlined words in blue are download links. Clicking on the link starts a download of the file.

Copies of the presentations and audio files of sessions can be downloaded by logged-in members of ICOYC in PDF or MP3 format by clicking on the word Download or Audio File for that session. Source documents in MS Word and MS PowerPoint are stored on the website and can be retrieved by contacting the webmaster at webeditor@icoyc.org. NOTE: Many of these presentations are large and may take a while to download over slower links. The Audio Files do not stream, rather they must be downloaded completely before playing. Please be patient!

Ways to Recruit, Develop and Retain Young Members and Top Sailors

Shifting the demographic bulge to the left.  Hear from horses’ mouths themselves as to what they want and what they think will keep them in the Club.  And once there, how do you make them top sailors?  Which clubs have the best programmes and how do they do it?

An introduction to sponsorship and commercial partnerships in the private yacht club industry with insight from some of the clubs and sponsors. What is the real or perceived value of sponsorship? What is important to sponsors? How do private club facilities protect their interests and the interests of their members from commercialism?  How is sponsorship used effectively to enhance an event and the club profile?

Succession Planning and Leadership Training
Identifying and developing future leaders.  Working within a clear committee structure with reporting lines and terms of reference.  Volunteers with the best of intentions aren’t always up for the job particularly in situations where clubs have to be run as companies.
