Founded in 1869, The San Francisco Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club in North America west of the Mississippi.  Originally sited at the China Basin in San Francisco near Mission Rock the club moved to its current site in tranquil Belvedere Cove in 1937, after a spell in Sausalito.

The San Francisco Yacht Club maintains a fine yachting facility with the Clubhouse, several ancillary buildings, a large harbor with 185 individual slips, dry boat storage facility with two cranes and a large floating dock for use by the Youth Sailing Program and small boats.

The harbor was begun in 1933, significantly expanded in 1957 and all docks were renovated in 2012. It is recognized as a premier yachting facility. The clubhouse was recently remodelled as well. A full service dining room and sunny deck extend the social activities of club members known for their sailing and cruising accomplishments.

The club hosts local, national and international sailing events and a very active racing and junior program. It is also home to the annual Great San Francisco Schooner Regatta. Club fleets include J24s and Optimists, with 420s, Lasers, Flying Juniors. A large variety of “Big Boats” are also sailed. Programs include Learn-to-Sail Instructional Programs, High School Racing, the Race Team, ”All Age Programs" and Private Sessions organized through the Youth Sailing Office located at the separate Sailing Center.

The San Francisco Yacht Club is active internationally with over 100 reciprocal clubs representing all five continents and has strong ties to other ICOYC North American clubs.
