royal Vancouver yacht club
Vancouver, british Columbia, Canada
In 2003, the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVanYC) celebrated its 100th anniversary, hosting the 1st Commodores' Forum of ICOYC, focused at the main clubhouse in English Bay. The clubhouse is always a hive of activity with active sailing, cruising, junior and social programs. It is also a social hub featuring fine wine and dining, with two resident sommeliers.
RVanYC's is ‘Built on tradition - embracing the future’, with the goal ‘To be one of the world's premier yacht clubs’. The club has a staff of 150, but relies on the community spirit and volunteerism of its 1985 active and associate members to realize its many programs and initiatives. A group called 'Active Intermediates' was founded in 2001 for the 19-35 age group to self-manage programs that match their own needs (lower price point, less formality).
With two main marinas and seven offshore stations in the Straits of Georgia world-class cruising is a particular focus. On the international scene RVanYC sponsors the biannual Vic-Maui sailboat race and is the home club for many successful Olympic sailors. As well as being a founding member of ICOYC, RVanYC hosted the 1st Commodores' Cruise in 2009, sharing its magnificent cruising grounds with ICOYC club members from all around the world..
